Born to family of Six children, Uyaiedu Ikpe- Etim was born on 1989 and hailed from a local government in Akwa-Ibom state, Nigeria. She is an accomplished screen writer, film maker and most of an activist.

After co-founding production company Hashtag Media House, Uyaiedu started her activism journey in 2011 and has been involved in numerous works to give voices to minority communities in Africa and most especially, Nigeria.

Uyaiedu since 2011 has given voice to LGBTQ+ community in Nigeria through her platforms and works.

It is believed that the rights of LGBTQ+ communities in Nigeria and most especially in Nollywood has been subjected to intense discrimination and Uyaiedu shot to limelight by writing and producing many nollywood movies to tackle infringement of rights against LGBTQ+ community.

WORKS

Uyaiedu has been involved in so many works, ranging from producing, directing and writing numerous contents.

In 2020, Uyaiedu and Pamela Adie gained prominence with their works on producing the movie ife.

The movie was Uyaiedu directorial debut and portrays a love story between two women. The movie was met with so much negativity as it features members of the LGBTQ+ Society.

The movie faced lots of issues with the National Board of film and video Censor as it was perceived to promote homosexuality in a country that has outlawed it since 2014.

Ife was however released abroad in October 2020 due to censorship issues at the Toronto LGBT film festival.

Uyaiedu Ikpe-Etim is not only an outspoken LGBTQ+ activist but she’s an out and recognized lesbian and identifies as a queer. She was recently in the news as she disclosed to be in an abusive relationship with her ex namely Amara.

Uyaiedu doesn’t really share much of her personal life online.

In 2020 Uyaiedu Ikpe-Etim was listed as one of BBC’s 100 women for 2020 as recognition for her works on women’s right and activism for the LGBTQ+ community in the country.
